  4. Thank you for your kind words.
We are all a team, and if it weren't for the support of EVERY player in the League then of course it wouldn't exist.
I am very proud of the fact that the League has being going for 40 years now (check out the History page), with me being Secretary for 33 of them
Peter and I (and many others) have been playing in this League for most of that time, and each season is different.
Many thanks for all of your support, and here's to another successful season, starting with the AGM in July.
    Cheers,
    John

  9. Thank you for your comments Glyn. During my 33 years as Secretary of this League, I am pleased to say that situations like those of the last 10 days are very few...BUT...you are sadly correct, these sort of "friendly" decisons will now have to stop. As all competitions are now past the first stage, I would not allow any further changes anyway, and so for this season at least, there should not be any repeat of the situation you described. I had already made the decision to add this topic to the agenda for the 2016-17 season AGM, so as to have a firm agreement from all teams going forward. Thank you to everyone who supports this League, as it would not exist without you all...cheers!

(Posted on 2016-02-27 12:26:00 by John Tinkler (League Secretary))
  10. I think it's about time a firm rule was sorted so that once any entry into any competition is submitted then it should not be changed under any circumstances. It may be a "friendly" league but when changes happen last minute, you have to be there on the day to see that the arguments and animosity that comes from any of these last minute changes. People are falling out with each other so this goes against the "friendly" philosophy. On the plus side it's great to see the league is stronger than when I last played. Credit to John for keeping things going and doing a good job. On a lst note though I have but one thing to say.......Up the Yella!!! :)

  12. Over the weekend I have had several conversations regarding the “County Player” rule number 27, which reads as follows…
A team can only register a new County player if they already have less than two existing County players.
Once they have two or more County players, no more County players can be registered.
If any player or players in that team get selected to play for a County, then all those County players may continue to play for that team for as long as they wish. The term “County” means having played for any County during the past two years from the start of the current season.
The first sentence is key, and very clear in my opinion…
If you are thinking about signing a new player who happens to be a County player, you must count ALL of your existing County players.
If you have less than two, then go ahead and sign the new player.
If you have only one, then you can sign one new County player.
If you have none, then you can sign two new ones.
I don’t believe there is any ambiguity in the above.
If you have read something else into the rule, please do not call me, the above is how the rule should be interpreted, and how it always has been.
This rule can only be changed at the next AGM.
The third sentence was introduced so that a team does not get penalised if their existing team members get selected for the County whilst playing in that same team. It would be very unfair to ask players to leave a team should they be deemed good enough to play for their County.
However, these County players are included when counting up the number of County players when you consider signing any new County players.
I hope that helps clarify the rule.
    Thanks,
    John

  31. The Annual General Meeting for the 2013-14 season will be held on Tuesday 13th August at 8pm in the downstairs bar of Marton Cricket Club. Last season we had a League of 17 teams, and at the time of writing this note, I have the following team information....The Royal George are dropping out, with some (or all) of their team transferring to Thornaby Social Club (near the Jolly Farmers). Paul Robson (ex Yellow Rose) is trying to get a team together from the Blue Bell (Acklam Road), please contact me if you are interested in playing for the Blue Bell. I have also had requests to join the League from Inn Off The Park (Linthorpe Road) and The Legion (Park Road North). Obviously all new team applications will need to be discussed at the AGM, and the final decision is made by all current team representatives. Please submit any proposed rule changes to me before the AGM. Look forward to seeing you on the 13th August.
    Thanks, John.

  38. Hi John,
Its a few years since I have played darts, or been involved, but I did run the Pied Piper Darts team for over 20 years and a lot off them spent in the Maltby League during which time we had soom great nights. At 67 I may come back and spend a thursday night with the lads Billy Pugh mentioned the web site which I have looked at, very good, impressed. Keep up the good work John, with out people like yourself darts wouldn't exist, may catch up with you sooner rather than later. Sad to Hear the death of the Pathfinders Captain a true gent.

  51. I had a call from Billy Pugh (Apple Tree "A") last night saying that he is struggling to get players this season, and is serioulsy considering withdrawing from the League. This would be a real shame as the Apple Tree has had two teams in the League for many years. If you, or you know of anyone that would like to play for the Apple Tree "A" then get in touch with me (use the Contacts page), and I can let Billy know. Even if you have registered for a team but haven't played yet this season you can still join the Apple Tree.

  54. It was agreed to allow me to make the draw at the Stainton this Thursday. The first team drawn out will be in Division 1, the second will be in Division 2, the third in Division 1, the fourth in Division 2, and so on. I have worked out the fixtures, but cannot confirm anything yet as I need to know how many "A" and "B" teams are in each division (I can cope with 5 "A" and "B" teams in each division). This means that there will only be 18 weeks of fixtures, so I plan to play all cup competitions on a Thursday and mingle these up with League matches so that League matches don't finish too early in the season. So, there will be 2 or 3 weeks of League matches followed by 1 week of a particular cup match, then another 2 or 3 weeks of League, then 1 cup, and so on. When the fixture list is issued, it will be a lot clearer, but it should mean no Wednesday matches (or just a very small amount). This would take us to May with Final's Night being held on Friday 18th May (to be confirmed of course). I hope that makes sense, but it will all become clear at the next meeting (or before on the Web Site if I get chance).
    Cheers, John

  81. Hi Luke, just got back form holiday late last night, so there has been no new postings from me for the last two weeks. The next meeting is this Tuesday, but it's still not certain how many teams are in and in some cases where the teams are plaing from. Hopefully the fixtures will be published on the Web next Wednesday if all is cleared up at the meeting. Cheers, John

  84. Excellent night. Bit rowdy at times but all in a fun way. There was great camaraderie between all teams on the night which was great. Well done to everyone especially Mr. Tinkler ;)

  85. Very close end to the season. Teal Arms pushed us all the way and were in fact 9 points clear at around the halfway stage. We had a shocking first half of the season but pulled together for the second half.

I've only played in the last two seasons but have seen a number of matches over a 10 year period, when I've been watching my mate Moody. I can say with certainty that the league is getting stronger all the time, especially over the last few years. Good stuff. There's not much between the top few teams at all really.

  86. My sincere best wishes go to the family of Kevin Whittle at the sad loss, he was a real gent and a good freind and will be sadly missed RIP mate.

  87. Thanks Glyn, nobody told me, I will update the League table right now.
Yes...very tight at the top, next week is a crucial match for you both.

  88. John, Glenn Moody hit a 180 in our 4's match on wednesday. It's probably not been submitted yet but thought I'd mention it anyway.

Going to be a tight finish in the league.

  91. Just a quick note for all teams who have to play in the Jubilee in the coming weeks, Leven Bank is currently closed and is likely to be so for the next 8 weeks (structural damage apparantly) so please make sure that you go another way round!

  92. Both Linthorpe B teams got through in the fours last night. The Golden Jubilee B team are a good set of guys. Fun bunch.

  94. Looking Forward to seeing the new Table. And the draw for the Individuals.

  95. There is no falling out to be done, but the bottom line is that people have to be registered to play in the League, and that includes competitions. It is up to the individuals and team captains to ensure that the rules are adhered to. This is not a full time job for me, so I need the help of everyone to ensure that the rules are obeyed, and this is the first year in many that the League has insisted that all registration forms are submitted in full (because we don't sign result cards anymore). Another point worth making is that I offered to place lists of all registered players on ths site, but this offer was not taken up at the AGM. Rest assured that I will be placing these lists on the Web next season, so this sort of situation cannot occur again. The irony of it is that if you had not asked for Peter to play, and played your Dad instead, then it may never have been picked up, but now your Dad cannot play either, as he is not on the list that I have from Billy. I am now checking all cup entries to ensure that players are registered. I am sure there are people out there that think you should challenge this decision, but even I cannot allow un-registered players to play after the closing date of 31 October.
    Cheers, John

  96. hiya john im sorry to cause so much trouble with this i dont want to fall out with you, im just writing to you what people are telling me to i accept were out end of! hopefully might do better in triples and individuals thanks john

  97. I'd like to say thankyou to the members of the Golden Jubilee B team for agreeing to re-arrange our four man match with them. Good sportsmanship. Thanks again.

(Posted on 2010-01-20 17:21:00 by Glyn Robertson Jnr)
  98. John, the registration sheet I have from Billy does not include your Dad's name (nor Peter's), so if you want to take it further I do not know how you will prove that your dad is registered? It's reassuring to know that "someone" in the Apple Tree seems to know more about who is registered than I do, maybe that "someone" has a different list to me and can provide me with the evidence. I said Peter could play purely on the grounds that the competition had not started, I did not think that I had to spell out the fact that he is supposed to be registered, after all, that is written into the rules. You need to discuss this with Billy. As he is your captain, then he must agree with your right to appeal. Until I hear from Billy, then the result stands. Cheers, John

  99. ive spoke to someone in the apple tree A and they've told me that my dad is registered, and they also said about the 4 man i have case to appeal and get the match replayed and not play peter this time because when i asked you said peter was able to play, so thats why my dad let him play last week and not play himself!

  100. Hi John,
You asked me whilst I was at work, and so I had no idea of knowing when I replied (I took in good faith that you knew). You have to appreciate that I have a full time job, a senior position in a large manufacturing company, and this consumes most of my time. It is up to the team captains to ensure that all players are registered, and I just don't have the time to police all matters 24x7 relating to the League. Incidentally, according to my records, your dad is not registered either (perhaps you need to speak to Billy about this). Sorry....John
